type i emt inducer eomesodermin has a significant expression in breast cancer

چکیده
objectives: epithelial-mesenchymal transition (emt) is a fundamental stage in cancer metastasis and the presence of vascular invasion is a strong indication of the spread of the malignant tumor cells. regulation of the emt is a complex process in which several different transcription factors are involved. eomesodermin (eomes) as a member of the t-box gene family is an important component in the induction of germ-line layer during gastrulation. however, its role in cancer is not well understood. thereby, in this project we aimed to assess the eomes gene expression in tumor tissues and to find out its possible relevance with vascular invasion. materials and methods: seventy one breast cancer tumors were obtained from tumor bank of cancer institute, imam khomeini hospital. quantitative real-time pcr (qrt-pcr) was done to evaluate eomes gene expression at rna level. results: our results have shown that eomes has been remarkably expressed in the majority of the tumor samples. high level of expression of eomes was concomitant with the presence of vascular invasion in 72% of samples, however no significant association was found. to the best of our knowledge this is for the first time that eomes expression has been reported in breast cancer tumors. conclusions: this important finding suggests that eomes has the potential to be used as a biomarker in breast cancer.

Tissue Expression of Prohibition-I and Its Relationship With Prognostic Factors in Breast Cancer
Background & objective: Globally, breast cancer is the most common malignancy among females. Prohibition (PHB)-I, a homologous protein, was initially introduced as a suppressor gene for amplification process. Further, the protein has a key role in the cell cycle and is capable of inhibiting DNA transcription in many cell types. Therefore, its possible role in different...
متن کاملType I interferons regulate eomesodermin expression and the development of unconventional memory CD8+ T cells
CD8(+) T-cell memory phenotype and function are acquired after antigen-driven activation. Memory-like cells may also arise in absence of antigenic exposure in the thymus or in the periphery. Eomesodermin (Eomes) is a key transcription factor for the development of these unconventional memory cells. Herein, we show that type I interferon signalling in CD8(+) T cells directly activates Eomes gene...
متن کاملRUNX1, a new regulator of EMT in breast cancer
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women, and the second leading cause of deaths due to cancer in the US [1]. About 90% of deaths from cancer are due to metastasis, a complex process in which tumor cells escape the primary local tumor, invade through surrounding tissues to spread and colonize distant organs. Tumor cells frequently undergo epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), a...
متن کاملMinimal limb volume change has a significant impact on breast cancer survivors.
We sought to define the incidence, risk factors, symptoms, and quality of life (QOL) outcomes associated with various degrees of postoperative limb volume change (LVC). A prospective cohort study was performed obtaining serial limb volume measurements using a perometer on 269 women undergoing surgery for breast cancer. Four groups were created based on maximum LVC: none < 5.0%, mild 5.0-9.9%, m...
متن کاملActivated Akt expression has significant correlation with EGFR and TGF-alpha expressions in stage I NSCLC.
BACKGROUND In vitro studies have indicated that epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) may intensify signaling output by the receptor's overexpression, heterodimerization with HER-2, or autocrine expression of ligands. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the correlation between EGFR and its related proteins and to explore the prognostic value of the proteins. MATERIALS AND METHO...
متن کاملExpression of Anaplastic Lymphoma Kinase Protein in Human Breast Cancer
Background & Objectives: Anaplastic lymphoma Kinase (ALK) is a receptor tyrosine kinase involved in the genesis of several human cancers. ALK was initially identified because of its involvement in anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). ALK is believed to foster tumorigenesis following activation by autocrine and/or paracrine growth loops. Studies reveal that the presence of anti-ALK antibodies ...
